About Steve Watson

Expressive pianist / composer Steve Watson hails from a diverse musical background in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Initially learning several instruments by ear, young Steve committed to trumpet and piano. After several years performing trumpet with various groups, he focused on piano, first in garage bands, then gigging extensively with multiple name acts in the bustling creative cauldron of Toronto’s club scene. Steve studied piano privately and at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto.

Born with an inventive knack for composition, Steve conveys deep emotion through his melodically lyrical originals.

In 1995 he moved to BC, Canada and co-founded the vocal / piano duo “Taylor Watson”, performing widely in BC, releasing the CD “No Coincidence” in 2000. Since then Steve has performed prolifically as a solo pianist and honed his uniquely evocative compositions.

November, 2019 marks the release of Steve’s debut solo piano CD, “Steve Watson”, on Watson Records.
Produced by Stu Goldberg, the CD features 12 of Steve’s originals, beautifully played and recorded.

Artist’s notes:

Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of performing as a pianist with groups of all sizes from duos to large ensembles.
I’ve always wanted to record my solo piano pieces, which allow me to express my innermost feelings both as a composer and as a musician.
Recently, through a mutual colleague, piano technician Matt Arnott, I had the privilege of meeting Stu Goldberg in his studio.
The stars aligned and the result is this CD containing intimate performances of my 12 favourite originals.
I’m very grateful to Matt for his years of technical expertise and friendship; also to Stu for his creative direction and production.
Thanks to all the friends who gave me strength when I needed it. You live both in my thoughts and in my heart!
